Our Story
Establishing and running a professional tattoo studio in the heart of Uptown Martinsville, VA would be daunting for any new business owner. At five months pregnant, local native Lara Blair did not at first feel up to the task. “No one can be a mother and run a tattoo shop.” But with family nearby and more on the way, she couldn’t move. With the encouragement of Laurna, a veteran shop owner and tattoo artist who joined BluTattoo early on, it became clear that there was no use living a life ruled by fear of the unknown. Making waves against the tide of male-dominated industry, Lara has built BluTattoo into a thriving studio serving not only Martinsville, but people across the region who are seeking hand-crafted art. Not long after, the shop would welcome Sierra Davis, and later bring Zoe Kirk under its wing as its first apprentice (now a licensed artist). As Martinsville's first woman-owned studio, BluTattoo is proud to serve its community, and change the tide along the way.
